Passenger in Antioch DUI Crash has Life-threatening Injuries

UPDATE: Juan Carmona Garcia, 28, of Antioch has been arrested on charges of DUI and driving without a license after the passenger in the car -Omar Garcia, was critically injured. 

ANTIOCH, Tenn. -- A passenger is taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after the car he's driving in crashes through a bus stop and ends up in a ditch.

The car struck the bus stop bench and rolled over in front of the Kroger at the Mt. View Road at Bell Road in Antioch at around 1 a.m. Monday after the car demolished an empty MTA bus stop. Metro Police say the driver is received minor head injuries, while the passenger went to Vanderbilt Medical Center with critical injuries.

Police believe alcohol and speed are involved in the crash. The driver is in custody for DUI, they say. More charges could be pending against the driver.

One northbound lane of Bell road will remain closed until further notice.
