LYLES, Tenn. -- School in the East Hickman school zone is cancelled today due to heavy air pollution from the plant fire in Lyle.

The massive fire that began around 10 a.m. Wednesday at the old Industrial Plastic Company on Plant Road in the Wrigley community still burns through the night. Firefighters plan to smother the fire this morning with dirt.

In the meantime, 300 people evacuated from their homes are staying in a shelter at a nearby church. It's unknown when they can go back.

Also, schools in the East Hickman school zone are cancelled today due to heavy air pollution. Teachers and staff, however, are to report as instructed by their principal.

The EPA is monitoring the environmental impact the fire will have because of chemicals.

No injuries are reported.
