NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Defense attorneys in the Vanderbilt rape case are fighting to keep a four man legal team in tact. Last month the state filed a motion to have California Attorney, Albert Perez removed from the case. Perez is one of the lawyers for rape suspect Brandon Vandenburg. District Attorney, Tom Thurman contends that Perez helped destroy evidence in the rape case and should be removed from the defense team. On Monday Vandenburg's the legal team fired back with a twenty six page response. They're asking for a full court hearing before any action is taken to disqualify Perez. The final decision will  be up to a judge. Brandon Vandenburg is one of four former Vanderbilt football players accused in the rape of a female co-ed.
