NUNNELLY, Tenn -Authorities in Hickman County confirmed tonight they are investigating a fatal fire as a potential homicide.
Sheriff Randal Ward  said evidence surfaced late Friday afternoon that called the fire into question.

Ward declined to say what that evidence is.

His investigators will be on the scene of the Nunnelly Community home on Dodd Hollow Road  Saturday to continue investigating.

The fire broke out early Friday morning and was too far gone for firefighters to save.

Sheriff Ward says the two victims were found on the floor in the bedroom.
Ward says it's possible they were overcome by the smoke while trying to get out.

The medical examiner has yet to identify the victims but it's believed they are the couple that owns the home.

The husband is a well known businessman and retired preacher in Hickman County.

Most recently he was a church elder at the Ships Bend Church of Christ near Centerville.

Fellow church elder Grady Atkins says he was a humble man who felt called to spread the word of God.

"He wanted to spread the gospel.  He was concerned about souls," said Atkins.
Atkins says Rivers ran a number of businesses around Hickman County including a sign company and a foundry.

He was also involved in a recycling company his son owns that burned recently.
