Freeze Warning, Cumberland Plateau Advisory

Winter-like conditions will be possible for middle Tennessee this weekend. A freeze warning is in effect for Friday and Saturday night. Temperatures will drop to around the freezing mark in Nashville and upper 20s outside the metro area. Saturday night will be even colder with temperatures dropping as low as the mid-20s outside the metro. Breezy NW winds will add to the chill. In addition to the cold, rain showers along the Cumberland Plateau will change over to light snow overnight.

Tennessee SCORE Report Identifies 5 Areas for Academic Performance Improvements

NASHVILLE, Tenn.-- Tennessee's annual SCORE report focusing on on the state's K-12 academic performance was released by founder and chairman Bill Frist. The former Senate Majority Leader says Tennessee is "at a crossroads in its pusuit of a better education system."


While there are needs for improvement, the report does note Tennessee is the fastest-improving state in the nation for student achievement according to 2013 NAEP report. 


The following are defined as Tennessee's top five priorities:


1. Maintaining a commitment to rigorous standards and assessments

2. Strengthening schools through effective leadership

3. Expanding student access to great teaching

4. Investing in technology to enhance instruction

5. Supporting students from kindergarten to career
