NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Extremely cold temperatures are already affecting the Metro School schedule. Students will get an extra day of winter break. There will be no school on Monday or Tuesday. It is very cold out there, and next week it will be much worse. That's why Metro Schools are doing something they haven't done in 4 years, cancelling school because of the cold. Students have been on winter break since before the holidays. They were supposed to return on Tuesday, but now they'll report on Wednesday. In the meantime, maintenance crews are making sure all of the school heating systems are working property. Bus drivers will spend part of Monday and Tuesday making sure their buses are ready to go. School leaders want to keep students safe from the frigid air. Not everyone gets an extended holiday. Principals will report to school on Monday, and Metro teachers have an in-service day on Tuesday.
