Stream WZTV Fox 17 Newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5am and News at 9pm.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Fox 17 has been involved for weeks helping a Murfreesboro couple get their stolen dog back.   They say an animal non profit took him for house training with the promise of returning him.

Now,  that dog lover is going to court to get Buddy back.

The Haddix's of Murfreesboro filed court papers late Wednesday suing the   director of the Humane Alliance of Rutherford County for intentional misrepresentation and for maliciously withholding Buddy from them.  They're asking the court to force the non profit director Penny Jekot to return Buddy and pay punitive damages.

Freida Haddix says, "It's because of greed."

Pictures aired on Fox 17 last week  show Buddy along with 20 other dogs stacked in pet carriers in the basement of Jekot's home.

Carolyn Campbell is part of the Bring Buddy Back Home group.

In this letter, Murfreesboro codes gave Jekot 20 days to remove the dogs  because having more than 4 is against the law. Jekot doesn't appear to be using her Humane Alliance shelter on Bridge Avenue.  Campbell says, "This is just unheard of for a 501c3 to be doing this. Hopefully, she'll talk to her attorney and he'll advise her to return Buddy."

Jekot's attorney did not return our phone calls for comment.
