Nashville, Tenn- Marvel Comics is known for pushing the envelop. In 2012, one of the Astonishing X-Men had a same sex marriage. And now, Kamala Khan, is the first female Muslim superhero to get her own Marvel series.

The first edition of the redesigned Ms. Marvel hit the stands Monday and doesn't shy away from her family's faith or the struggles Kamala believes come with it.

Chad Abushanab is an avid comic reader whose father is Muslim. Abushanab says, " I don't really identify as such but I'm really familiar with the culture and I know that it's extremely under-represented."

The first issue of Ms. Marvel ends with a series of letters sent to the writers, all of which praises Marvel's willingness to take a risk.
