Stream WZTV Fox 17 Newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5am and News at 9pm.

Nashville was one of nearly three dozen cities who received a letter this month asking if they were interested in hosting the 2016 Democratic National Convention.

It costs a city between $50 million to $60 million to host the convention, but the return on investment could be three times more than the price tag.

"Hosting a national convention can be a great economic boon for any city," DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz wrote in a note to the mayors, which was obtained by CNN. "Past conventions have injected approximately $150 million to $200 million directly into the host city's economy."

Nashville Mayor Karl Dean has said in the past he is interested in hosting a political convention.

Among the cities that received letters from the DNC are:

Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus-Ohio, Dallas, Detroit, El Paso, Houston, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Memphis, Miami, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Nashville-Davidson, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Orlando, New Orleans, Oakland, Pittsburgh, Portland, Sacramento, San Antonio, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, St. Louis, Tampa.
