CODE YELLOW: Heavy Rains Expected Overnight

A few showers could pop-up around the mid-state this afternoon, but our Microcast model shows the heaviest rain to arrive in Nashville around 3am. Areas to the west of the city will see it sooner and areas to the east will see it later.  Some storms could be strong with gusty winds and heavy pockets of rain.  A few left-over showers could hang around as late as Friday night, so area high school football games might be wet.

House Passes Debt-Ceiling Measure

Stream Fox 17 newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5 am and News at 9 pm.

WASHINGTON-- The House of Representatives passed a debt ceiling increase on Tuesday which will allow for the government to increase the borrowing cap. The 221-201 vote did not ask for any concessions from the White House.

Only 28 Republicans --including Speaker John Boehner-- voted for the increase.

Congressman Diane Black (R-TN-06) responded shortly after the announcement, releasing the following statement:

Our federal government has amassed a staggering $17.3 trillion national debt, but sadly the Democrat majority here in Washington wants to continue business as usual. This is more than disappointing, as our looming debt crisis threatens the security of the nation we leave behind for future generations. Without needed reforms to address the drivers of our debt and deficits, the bill before the House tonight simply gives President Obama a blank check to continue borrowing against our children and grandchildrens future.
