Bible Companion Stops Two Bullets, Saves Bus Driver's Life

Stream WZTV Fox 17 Newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5am and News at 9pm.

An Ohio bus driver literally owes his life to his reading of the bible. According to the Dayton Daily News, 49-year-old Rickey Wagoner was trying to see what was wrong with his bus after it had stopped running when he was shot three times.

One of the bullets struck his leg and the other two hit him in the chest. But instead of suffering two potentially fatal wounds, those two shots to the chest were stopped by a New Testament book called "The Message." The book is a companion Bible in contemporary language which reads more like a story book.

According to his police statement, Wagoner had the book in his shirt pocket as he was repairing his bus when he was approached by three men. One of the men fired the two shots at his chest. Those bullets being stopped by the book allowed him to fight back. Wagoner was able to wrestle one gun away, but was then shot in the leg by another one of the attackers. He was then stabbed in the arm with a knife before taking out an aluminum pen and stabbing one of the men in the leg.

The attackers fled afterwards, and Wagoner was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
