Road Menace of Maury Co. Strikes Again

Stream Fox 17 newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5 am and News at 9 pm.

COLUMBIA, Tenn. - Right now, concern is growing in Maury County tonight as real police officers are looking for 2 men pretending to be cops. The fake officers have robbed unsuspecting victims by gun point after pulling them over. Police are looking for 2 men in a newer model yellow Camaro with a blue light on the dash. Just Friday night around this time it was seen parked on the side of the road. The criminals tried pulling over an innocent driver who got away, but not everyone was so lucky. Jesus Bernabe was pulled over on his way to work last Wednesday. Bernabe was told his tag lights were out, but what happened next made him realize it was not a traffic stop. It was a robbery.

The fake cop stole all the cash from Bernabe's wallet and threatened to deport him before letting him go. It's the 2nd reported traffic stop robbery in just over a week, all done by 2 people pretending to be the good guys. These fake cops may still be patrolling in the area and if you think they might be after you, don't pull over. Instead, call 911 and they can tell you if it's a real cop or not. Since these incidents have been happening, innocent people who happen to drive a similar yellow car have been pulled over.
