(CNN)-- Harrowing photos were taken in Miami, Florida on Thursday when a woman frantically stopped her car in traffic during a plea to get help for her infant nephew who stopped breathing.

Pamela Rauseo was driving with her 5-month-old nephew down State Road 836 when baby Sebastian went abruptly silent. Rauseo pulled over to check on him in the back seat and found him turning purple and unresponsive. "I tried to call 911, but I was just so nervous, my hands wouldn't function."

Rauseo called out for help. Motorists stopped and responded from "all sides" of the road to help Rauseo. Among them were photographer Al Diaz of the Miami Herald and Sweetwater police officer Amauris Bastidas.

Rauseo performed CPR but baby Sebastian again stopped breathing. "It was like the nightmare started all over again," Rauseo said. Bastidas resumed performing chest compressions, "and the baby finally reacted, and this time it was for much longer -- until the fire/rescue came."

Baby Sebastian was taken to the hospital where he was listed in critical condition, but Rauseo believes he will be fine.
