"Werewolf" Cat Breed in Tennessee

Stream Fox 17 newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5 am and News at 9 pm.

A Vonore, Tennessee breeder is one of just seven in the world which are registered to breed the Lykoi cat, otherwise known as the "wolf cat."

The unique breed which looks like a werewolf because of their lack of an undercoat and gold eyes is said to be cautious around strangers, but warm up quickly. The first litter of these wolf cats came from a father which was of unknown breed and a black domestic short-hair mother.

Lykoi are usually hairless around the face and their extremities, leading to their unique werewolf look. They also shed regularly and coats can vary in color, although breeders are focused on breeding Lykoi with the black coat which look more like a werewolf.

Tests run at the University of Tennessee and UC Davis show the cats are clear of any genetic diseases and skin abnormalities. Females weigh up to 7 pounds and males usually max-out around 10 pounds.
