The U.S. Department of Transportation highlighted the potential of Nashvilles Amp project in a press release sent out Wednesday.

Along with El Paso, Texas rapid transit system proposal and Bostons project to expand its green subway line, the department praised Nashvilles proposed project, calling it a service that would re-connect the citys east and west sides, helping residents of Five Points and other neighborhoods to more easily reach jobs, education, and medical care.

The release follows news this week that President Barack Obama has included $27 million in his proposed budget to Congress.

Metro government has requested $75 million for the high-speed bus line. The project would cost $175 million overall.

Opponents say the dedicated bus line will increase traffic, instead of reduce it, and question the route selected, which would travel from St. Thomas Hospital to 5 Points.
