Premature Baby Saved by Zip-Lock Bag

Stream WZTV Fox 17 Newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5am and News at 9pm.

A premature baby saved by unconventional methods is being touted as a story of survival on her first birthday. Born weighing just 14 ounces, baby Lexi Lacey was born 14 weeks early and doctors feared she wouldn't make it. According to Express News, doctors at Worcestershire Royal Hospital in England needed a way to insulate the child, so they used a sandwich bag.

Doctors used the bag as a blanket as a temporary measure until they were then able to have the baby transferred to a hospital which specialized in premature children. Because of her extremely early exit from the womb, baby Lexi needed eye surgery, bowel surgery and a blood transfusion. She was kept warm in the bag for three days until she was transferred and the child's mom believes it saved her life.

We were gobsmacked but so grateful to the hospital without the bag Lexi probably wouldnt have survived, its a miracle.

Amazingly, the child survived and is now 3 1/2 years old thanks to doctor's quick and creative thinking. The technique has also been reported in other instances as a temporary solution.
