Police Impersonators Suspected of Robbing Sought

The Columbia Police Department said it is looking for two men suspected of pretending to be police officers and robbing victims.

According to a press release sent out Thursday, since Feb. 2, the Columbia Police Department and the Maury County Sheriffs Department have been receiving reports of two men who have been making or have been attempting to make traffic stops in a yellow Camaro with a blue light.

In two incidents in Maury County, victims said they were robbed. One of the subjects was described as a white man about 6 feet tall in his 30s and wearing a ball cap, with brownish hair sticking out of the back. The other suspect is described as a black male about 6 feet tall in his 30s with short hair.

The Camaro is described as being a solid color (no stripes), newer model and having silver wheels.

Authorities have released a sketch of the suspects.

Any person recognizing any of the offenders as described above, particularly any owning, driving, or otherwise associated with a yellow Camaro, should contact Columbia Police Department Investigations Division or Detective Ray McCluggage with Maury County Sheriffs Department (931-375-8689).
