NASHVILLE, Tenn.-- Gov. Bill Haslam has declared a state of emergency in Tennessee. In a tweet, he urged caution and asked residents to stay off icy roads.

The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency's Operations Center has been activated to a Level IV-Elevated due to current weather conditions.

Sub-freezing temps and the potential for freezing rain, sleet and snow could pose threats such as downed trees, downed power lines, power outages and hazardous driving conditions.

Ice accumulations of one-quarter to three-quarter inches are possible for the mid-state along and north of I-40. According to TEMA, areas south of I-40 and east of Nashville could see up to one-quarter inch of ice. Temps on Monday will not reach above freezing.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation could also have a difficult time battling ice. Normal brine and salting might not work as well due to the rapid temperature drops. Staying off the roads on Monday morning is advised.

In Montgomery County, there have been 35 weather-related car accidents reported in Montgomery County.

Nashville International Airport reports there have been nearly 80 flights cancelled.
