Tennessee came in seventh as the most miserable state to live in, according to a recent Gallup poll.

The tracking firm noted in its annual Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index survey several reasons why people are so unhappy in the Volunteer State, USA Today reported. Tennesseans are among the most likely in the country to have physical health problems like high blood pressure, chronic pain and diabetes.

Tennessees violent crime rate in 2012 was the highest in the country with 643.6 incidents per 100,000 residents. Gallup reported people in Tennessee felt less safe walking at night than many other states.

The report also noted low economic confidence, despite the fact the states economy grew by 3.3 percent in 2012 one of the largest rates in the country that year.

The most miserable state was West Virginia, while the happiest was North Dakota.

Tennessee's miserable ranking did improve over 2013. Last year, Tennessee ranked as the fourth most miserable state.
