Metro police say a homeless man was murdered and his body was found in a pit fire under the I-65 Overpass of the CSX railroad tracks near Thompson lane.  Jessie Scales, 52, walked into the Mapco in the 2600 block of Franklin Pike early this morning and told the clerk that he thought he had murdered someone.  Police say Scales demanded the victim's money, however, when the victim refused, Scales allegedly put the victim in a fire pit and struck him multiple times with a shovel.

Scales was charged with Criminal Homicide.  Police say he has a lengthy record including Aggravated Assault, Assault, Vandalism, and Disorderly Conduct.
