School Bus Accident Kills Driver in Other Vehicle -- Sky Arnold

Stream WZTV Fox 17 Newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5am and News at 9pm.

A good deed may have cost a Manchester man his life. That man died in a crash with a school bus Monday afternoon.

Darleen Hunt says it may have happened because he stopped to give her a chance to cross Murfreesboro Highway to get to her mailbox.

"He had just been so kind.  Nobody slows down and lets you get your mail," said Hunt.

Hunt says moments after the man stopped she heard a bang that sounded like a tire blowing.

When she looked up, Hunt says she saw the man's Jeep swerving and then noticed a school bus coming from behind that tried to go around him. The two vehicles collided. All 22 children in the school bus and the driver were ok. The driver of that Jeep was not as lucky.

"So there are no kids hurt or injured so that is a blessing there but unfortunately there was a driver killed in the crash the driver of the SUV did die," said Tennessee Highway Patrol Sgt. Bill Miller.

The THP has not named the driver yet but Fox 17 News did confirm he owns a Manchester Oyster Bar.

He also lives close enough to the accident his wife heard it. She tells Fox 17 News her husband had just left home to take some trash to the dump when the crash happened.

"When I stood there I knew there was no way he'd make it out of that.  You could tell by looking at it," said Hunt.

The THP is still investigating the accident to determine exactly what happened.
