Couple Killed in Lincoln County Tornado Identified

Authorities have identified the two people killed in Monday night's tornado in Lincoln County. They are 60-year-old John Prince and 44-year-old Karen Prince. The married couple died when their Tipton Road mobile home was swept away by the tornado.

Lincoln County officials said seven others were injured.

In all, the tornado destroyed 25 homes, many along Price Lane and Howell Hill Road. South Lincoln Elementary school on Smith Mill Road was destroyed. The tornado picked up a school bus and slammed it into the front of the building. School will be closed countywide on Wednesday.

The National Guard is assisting with search and rescue efforts, although deputies believe everyone is accounted for. The National Weather Service in Huntsville confirmed Tuesday a preliminary report of EF3 damage from Monday's tornado in Lincoln County. An EF3 tornado is officially described as "strong" with winds between 136 and 165 MPH. There are five classifications of tornadoes.

Clean up efforts will start on Wednesday.
