EXCLUSIVE: Chris Boyd's Father Speaks About Son's Future in NFL -- Eric Alvarez

Stream WZTV Fox 17 Newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5am and News at 9pm.

Eric Alvarez has an exclusive interview with the father of Chris Boyd, who was kicked off the Vanderbilt football team last year for attempting to cover up an alleged rape by teammates.

Boyd's father said the former Vanderbilt wide receiver is already training with the Cowboys and looking toward the future

Boyd tweeted: ""glad to say that i am a dallas cowboy! #americasteam #dreamchaser #thebeginning" after signing as a rookie free agent with the Dallas Cowboys.

His father Steven Boyd says the opportunity comes at the end of a difficult year that saw his son miss out on his last season at vanderbilt because of off the field issues.

"He worked very hard for this opportunity and I think he'll go there and he'll compete and prove that if he makes the squad he will have earned it," Steven Boyd said.  "I'm more proud for him than anythng else."

The Cowboys signed more than 20 rookie free agents after the draft.  If Boyd earns a spot on the team he could return to Nashville when the Cowboys take on the Titans September 14 at LP Field.
