MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Tenn. -- One person is injured critically following a multi-vehicle wreck involving a trooper in Montgomery County.

A Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper was investigating a truck crashed into a ditch just before 9:30 p.m. Thursday on I-24 E. at  Rossview Road (mile marker 9), when a chain reaction crash occurred an hour later involving four vehicles, including a tow truck and tractor trailer and two cars, according to the THP report.

The tow truck driver, 47-year-old James Walker Jr., of Clarksville, is at Vanderbilt Medical Center in critical condition. The investigation reveals it was the semi that ran into the tow truck.

Trooper Julio Lassale, 48, was hit in the hip by a car and knocked to the ground. He has been treated and released from Gateway Medical Center.

The driver of the truck crashed in a ditch, 51-year-old Norma Moore of Clarksville, is also at Gateway. Police say they will be arresting her for DUI when she is released from the hospital.

Charges are possible against the drivers of the cars, one who police say slowed down to a near stop creating an hazardous situation and the other who hit the officer. Also, charges are possible against the tractor trailer driver, pending the investigation.

The roadway remained shutdown until 4 a.m.
