Survey Breaks Down Average Cash Gifts for Grads

Many of the young graduates in our life are currently collecting their hard-earned diplomas. So, as many of us hit graduation ceremonies or get graduation announcements in the mail, it may be time to think of a good gift for them.

Half of us will give monetary gifts to the grads in our life this year, according to a new survey from retailmenot.com. The coupon site also broke down how much money we're all giving, depending on what level of schooling your grad just graduated from.

For high school grads, the average monetary gift is $165. For college, that jumps to $464. For graduate school, grads get approximately $772.

Interestingly enough, the survey also found that graduates wished they would have received more advice about life in addition to monetary gifts -- including advice on how to save money and finding a job.

And while, you can never go wrong with good advice, it's clear from those totals that grads these days might just expect some cash on the side, too.
