Kanye Returns to Bonnaroo after Unpopular 2008 Show -- Sky Arnold

Stream WZTV Fox 17 Newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5am and News at 9pm.

If there's one thing Bonnaroo fans take pride in it's being part of a place of peace and love.

But there is one exception you'll notice this year.

Fans like Duston Smith are wearing shirts that says "expletive" Kayne West.

"He's just this diva and that's not what Bonnaroo is about," said Smith.

It all goes back to a 2008 concert at Bonnaroo some fans are still fired up about.

Fans booed West and threw things on the stage after he went on late.

Dustin Alvis says he remembers it well.

"I don't know what time it was but it was way late.  Dog gone 5 in the morning," said Alvis.

The official explanation was the show was late because West changed his scheduled time and stage to accommodate his light show.

The set up couldn't begin until the previous act, Pearl Jam, was over and they ran long.

That put West's set up even further behind.

West blamed Bonnaroo for the delay on his blog but today some fans still blame West's ego.

"It's not just the 2008 show it's the pervasive attitude that no one matters but Kayne," said Alvis.

There's talk this year that fans may boo West again but Matt C says he hopes they give West a chance.

"He really does kill it," said Matt C. "People just need to get over it.  I feel like tonight' he's gonna come out he's gonna embrace the community and put everybody on his back."

Alvis says it will take something else to appease fans like him.

He wants an apology.

"Can he yes will he no because he still hasn't said I'm sorry," said Alvis.

Bonnaroo organizers say they booked West because he's a "major artist" of our time.

The festival almost booked West last year for a surprise show but the details couldn't be worked out.
