App Helps Neighbors Watch Out for Scams -- Erika Kurre

Stream WZTV Fox 17 Newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5am and News at 9pm.

Nashville, TN - An East Nashville neighborhood is on hightened alert right now.
People are watching out for door-to-door salespeople after getting an online heads-up.

Several living in the Rose Bank area have had men knock on their door, claiming to be with AT&T.

More than 200 people living in this Rose Bank area are plugged into the social site Next Door.
It's basically an online neighborhood watch and several of them think they've spotted a scam.

Jason O'Brien describes a break-in at his house about a year ago.

He's worried the same thing may happen again after what he calls a "suspicious" visit from people claiming to be AT&T salesmen.

He's among several neighbors who were visited, worried their home was being cased.

Jeremy Hundley is the neighbor who facilitates Rose Bank's Next Door site.

Several people have posted and commented about the encounters, a couple even claiming to have reported it to police.

Fox 17 contacted AT&T.

Spokesperson Cathy Lewandowski confirms door-to-door sales representatives have been in that area during the months of May and June.

But these people should be wearing a visible badge listing them as an Authorized Solution Provider near AT&T's logo.

They should also be carrying a letter from AT&T made available upon request and carrying sales material.

O'Brien says knowing these people could be legitimate AT&T employees isn't comforting either.

We've been unable to track any reports of people actually being scammed in this area.
The neighbors who are in the know credit the Next Door app for keeping them on guard.
Any neighborhood can get on board.

You just need proof of residence to connect to your area.
