Metro Nashville To Join $100 Billion Club

NASHVILLE, Tenn.-- According to a report on Metro economies by the U.S. Conference of Mayors, Nashville is expected to join 33 other cities in the $100 billion "Gross Metro Product" club. 

Gross Metro Product is defined as measurement of goods and services produced in a metro area. 

Nashville had a GMP of 96.3 billion in 2013, a number expected to jump to 100.8 billion by the end of this year and rise to 106.2 billion in 2015. The Gross State Product for Tennessee was 287.3 billion in 2013, meaning Nashville accounted for 33.5 percent of the state's economy. Memphis was the second-highest contributor with 21.3 percent of Gross State Product.

Nashville's 4.2 percent growth in 2013 was second only to Austin, Texas and San Jose, California. The national average was just 2.1 percent.
