RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. -- Country legend Jimmy C. Newman lost his battle with cancer and passed away at his home in Rutherford County.

Newman started out in Louisiana playing Cajun music which is what his middle initial stands for.  He started to mix the Cajun Music with Country Music to define his sound.   His first hit was "Cry, Cry, Darling" and he was consistently in the charts for the rest of his playing days.

Newman played at the Grand Ole Opry for 50 years.  Later in his life, he bought a house in Rutherford County.
