ONLY ON FOX: Bellevue Residents Hope to Prevent Mudslide -- Erika Kurre

Nashville, TN - A Bellevue neighborhood is once again sitting tight, worried that one wrong decision could lead to a mudslide.

A high-density zoning plan which would allow more than one hundred apartment homes on a hill above already existing houses could end in disaster.

Now, a mistake by the planning commission has caused one more delay in getting it fixed.

Luke Myers is among dozens of neighbors along Holt Valley Road doing what he can to keep his home safe after having roof damage from a tree during a mudslide.

Nashville's west side had its share of destruction from mudslides during the May 2010 flooding.

Neighborhoods from West Meade to Bellevue still show remnants of the problem today.

On the hills just above this street is a large plot of land that could potentially be developed.

The concern is high-density housing will only make the problem worse.

It's a fear that many hoped would have been alleviated in Tuesday's metro council meeting by down-zoning the property before anything is built.

Councilwoman Sheri Wiener says an incorrect sign posted by the Metro Planning Commission showed the wrong date, time and place for a hearing on this.

Due to that mistake, the plan that's been open for re-zoning for more than a year and has already been deferred is once again forced to wait before the council hears it.

And the more time it sits, the more these neighbors worry.

The mistake is costing the down-zoning plan about 6 to eight more weeks.

The Planning Commission's public hearing on it will now be held August 14th.

So the council hearing is being deferred to September.
