UPDATED: Driver Killed after Hitting Tree Head-on in W. Nashville Identified

UPDATE: The woman killed in this morning's crash has been identified as 30-year-old Amanda Holmes. Police state she was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scend. An open bottle of wine was recovered from the car, but toxicology tests will have to made to see if alcohol was a factor. 

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A 31-year-old female driver is reported dead after hitting a tree head-on in west Nashville. The 5 a.m. crash occurred at the 5900 block of Hickory Valley Road. No other passengers were in the car.

Police say speed is a factor in the crash. They also say the victim missed the stop sign and ran off the road. Alcohol is not thought at this time to be involved.

A neighbor heard and came upon the crash. The roadway reopened at 7:30 a.m.
