Flight Ban to Israel Continues -- Eric Alvarez

Stream WZTV Fox 17 Newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5am and News at 9pm.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. A Nashville mother is separated from her teenage daughter who can't leave Israel because of FAA bans on flights to and from a Tel Aviv airport.

A handful of travelers arrived at Nashville International Airport on one of the last flights out of Tel Aviv on a U.S. airline Tuesday.

Twenty-four hours later they organized a community meeting calling for the FAA to lift the ban on domestic airlines from flying into and out of Ben Guiron International Airport.

At Wednesday's meeting, the deputy consul general of Israel in Atlanta said more than 80 percent of Israels population lives under threat of rocket attacks,  but Naomi Limor-Sedek says the airport is perfectly safe and is calling on the FAA to lift the ban.

I think the extension is probably ridiculous, said Limor-Sedek, whose teenage daughter is still in Israel and scheduled to fly back to Nashville on Monday.

Limor-Sedek says if the ban continues until then, she wont hesitate to find her daughter new airline.

"The national airlines of Israel El Al is still flying in and out of that airport, Limor-Sedek said.  She'll be safe coming back home.

Nashville International Airport does not offer direct flights to or from Israel, and if the FAA lifts the ban, that doesnt necessarily mean airlines will resume flying there.
