East Nashville Man Shows Dislike for New Home Construction with Cans -- Kai Beech

Stream WZTV Fox 17 Newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5am and News at 9pm.

You can pick your neighborhood but you cant pick how your neighboring house is built.

And on Carter Ave. in East Nashville, thats becoming a big problem for the Hames family. Theyve lived in their single-story bungalow for almost 100 years. But when a pair of two-story modern homes were built a few months ago, things got ugly. Glen Hames strongly dislikes the style of which the houses were constructed. In retaliation, he decorated his lawn with empty soda cans; giving his neighbors their own eye sore to deal with.

Hes in a state of defiance about all this construction going up, said Glens son Lucas Hames. My dad was in construction his whole life and he can just tell bad work, sloppy work when he sees it.

But not everyone agrees. Jerry Bequette also lives in East Nashville and owns a couple of property rentals in the area. He likes the new construction and believes it will help raise his property values.

Theres so many of them being built, he said. Thats just the way it is.

As for the Hames, they like East Nashville the way it is and want to keep it that way.

I think a lot of people would like to keep it the same and not get all this new stuff in, Lucas Hames said. Theres a lot of nice houses, beautiful houses that dont need to be torn down.
