EDITORS NOTE: The story had incorrectly reported that he died Wednesday.

A young Wilson County boy who captured the hearts of Middle Tennessee passed away on Tuesday. Josh Osborne, 24, fought back from many health problems, which included surviving starvation by his own parents for nine years.

Osborne had been battling a virus in what was an ongoing series of health problems.

Authorities in 2004 found Osborne, then 15, in his Lebanon home where he had been starved and chained to a bed. He weighed only 50 pounds. Osborne's father and stepmother were later sentenced to six years in prison after being convicted of attempted aggravated child neglect.

Osborne had been living with his aunt in La Vergne. Child abuse laws were made stricter because of Josh's story, including state legislation called the "Josh Osborne Law." The law added starvation and dehydration to the list of possible child abuse charges.

Osborne was an organ transplant survivor.

He had been working at Goodwill and even won employee of the year.
In a statement to the media, Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee expressed its condolences.

It read: "The entire Goodwill family is saddened by the loss of Mr. Josh Osborne. He dedicated seven years of his life to Goodwill, and we are so grateful for his service. Our prayers are with his family."

The store manager where Osborne worked also mourned his death in the statement.
"We will always remember Josh's smile and positive attitude," said Goodwill Store Manager Angeline Bivens. "He loved his Goodwill family, and we loved him."
