Police say they have intercepted one of the largest shipments of crystal meth to Nashville. More than 5.5 pounds of the drug were seized coming from California, the Nashville police department said in a press release on Wednesday.

Wednesdays seizure of more than 5 pounds of crystal methamphetamine sent from California to Nashville is one of the largest to be intercepted by Nashville Police in recent years.

After receiving information that the crystal meth would be arriving at a local shipping business, narcotics detectives set up surveillance to see who would claim it.

Jeffrey Grammer, 49, accepted the package and then got into a GMC Yukon being driven by Deanna Conners, 35, the release said.

The SUV was stopped, and the parcel was found, in addition to $12,612 cash and a black bag containing red phosphorous, which is used in meth manufacture. There were also small baggies containing meth residue.

Grammer, of Bells, Tenn,, and Conners, of Henderson, Tenn,, were each charged with possession of meth for resale, conspiracy to distribute meth and promotion of meth manufacture.  Their bond was set at $257,000 each.
