Nashville, Tenn. -- Tennessee students made gains.

The results show 100,000 more high school students than last year hit expectations in math, and an additional 57,000 are performing at or above grade level in science.

State officials say that's party thanks to how teachers parents and students adapted to new standards

The results results come at the end of a school year where parents were openly critical of new standards.

Julie West, president of Parents for Truth in Education still questions the need to bring new standards into the classroom.  She's also calling for more information about a TCAP score delay which allowed schools to do away with the TCAP component of students' final grades.

"The delay cost Williamson County alone, six figures because TCAPs weren't ready on time," West said.  "We're somehow supposed to believe that this is somehow associated with improvement?"
