GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -- Greenville County deputies said Tiffany Simmons made her 12-year-old son get out of the family car after an argument during a shopping trip.

Deputies said Simmons and the boy live in Liberty. Investigators said the boy eventually wandered his way to a home on Old Farrs Bridge Road, 20 miles away from his home.

Delinda Duncan said the boy knocked on her door around 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

"The little boy was all sweaty, tired and scared," Duncan said. "So I gave him a Coke."

Duncan said she then called 911. Deputy Drew Pinciaro said what Simmons did went far beyond any normal punishment.

"By leaving him in an unknown location in a different county she put him at risk," Pinciaro said.

Deputies said they charged Simmons with unlawful conduct towards a child. Pinciaro said Liberty police helped bring Simmons back to Greenville.

Duncan said she is thankful the boy found his way to her door and that Simmons found her way to jail.

"She needs help because there is nothing more beautiful than a child," Duncan said.

According to deputies, the boy is with family while the Department of Social Services investigates.
