Stream WZTV Fox 17 Newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 4:30am, News at 5:30pm and News at 9pm & 10 pm.

UPDATE: I-65 Northbound has re-opened for traffic. (1pm CST)

Franklin Police say there is no timetable as to when I-65 at Peytonsville Rd in Franklin will re-open. PIO Lt. Charles Warner stated "This situation will be ongoing. We are relying on experts. Have no intention on rushing them." He also added the goal is to conduct the evaluation right and not fast to ensure the safety of drivers.

Lt. Wilson also informed FOX 17 on the events leading up to the crash. Investigators have determined the truck, owned by Edwards Oil Company in Lawrenceburg, was not speeding at the time of the crash. However, the impact against the support column of the Peytonsville Bridge was so severe that the tank split into two separate pieces.

Federal, state and local agencies are all on the scene helping with the investigations. Aside from the crash investigation, Lt. Warner reminded residents there is also a death investigation and engineers are evaluating both the new and old Peytonsville Bridge structures for safety. Reports are the bridge has "bowed" from the intense heat and will have to be deemed safe before opening.

Lt. Warner also reminded residents "Someone lost a family member today. Our hearts go out to them."

One construction worker on the scene stated the support beams to the bridge were "gone." Fox 17 will continue with LIVE coverage at 5:30 and 9pm with a look at what's next for investigators and residents who use I-65.

EARLIER REPORT: CODE RED: STEER CLEAR TRAFFIC ALERT
FRANKLIN, Tenn. -- A bridge in Franklin is damaged after a tanker explosion on I-65 South just after 3:30 a.m. Friday at Peytonsville Road.

The truck driver is confirmed dead, by Franklin Police. The driver's name nor truck company has been released, but police say the driver is believed to have been traveling at interstate speeds.

No other vehicles are involved.

A lane in both directions of I-65 reopened at 6:30 a.m., however, traffic is being diverted off I-65 around the bridges at the Peytonsville Road off-ramp.

TDOT says a bridge inspection team is en route. Police say no one can travel across or under the bridge until the structure is inspected.

Expect significant delays on I-65 and secondary roads.

Franklin Police say the tanker traveling southbound struck a column and exploded causing damage to the bridges over the interstate. They are seeing bowing on the new bridge. Any damage to the old bridge at this time is unknown.

This is an active construction zone, TDOT confirms, but it is unknown if that has anything to do with the incident.

The water supply is reported by Franklin Police not to be compromised.

A witness reports seeing a large fireball.

FOX 17 News has several crews at the scene. Stay with us until 9am or later if needed.
