FRANKLIN, Tenn. -- The bridge is gone, just one day after a tanker carrying gasoline hit a column at I-65 and Peytonsville Road in Franklin, igniting and damaging the elevated roadway.

TDOT says great progress was made today in the demolition. Paving is next.

Today, the contractor removed all the overhead bridge and supports, says TDOT. Crews will work through Saturday evening.

Grading crews and Paving crews are in place making sure ditches and shoulders are safe, as well as barrier rail and traffic control devices are reset.

Optimistically, TDOT says all lanes of I-65 could reopen as early as noon Sunday if all goes well, much earlier than anticipated.

Williamson County Schools are encouraging all parents who drop their students off to have them ride the bus this week. Some route times will double due to having to take detours. Residents say the construction is also causing travel times to double.
