Most bad guys aren't known for making good decisions. But cops say a group of car crooks take the cake when it comes to poor judgment.

"Very dumb," said Gallatin Police Department Officer Bill Storment. "I don't know what's going on in someone’s head when they do something like that."

That something was Dakota Emler's decision to post a selfie on social media of him holding a stolen handgun.

"Looks like his finger is on the trigger," Storment said of the picture. "It scares me to think he’s thinking about using that to commit another crime."

Emler, Tyler Butler and a 16-year-old where recently busted for breaking into cars and stealing whatever they could find. Police say they've hit over 100 cars during the past eight months. But their crime spree came to an end after police say they were caught on camera breaking into a truck in a Gallatin neighborhood.

Missy Jackson was one of the many victims and thanks to her neighbor’s surveillance system, police had a solid lead on their suspects.

"You could tell that they had done it before," Jackson said of the video. "It was pretty creepy."
