CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.-- A dog found in a dumpster is now recovering, with the help of dozens of people.

Montgomery County Animal Control director, Tim Clifton says, " You just think how could somebody throw away a beautiful creature like this. You really couldn't tell what he was at first because he was solid black and covered with dirt and oil and dirt and dust. Just a greasy mess."

Oscar is a young, Yorkshire Terrier. Tim Clifton responded to Lincoln Homes in Clarksville, when a maintenance worker called that he found a dog in the trash bin.

Clifton took Oscar to veterinarian, Dr. Andrew Fancher at the Animal Hospital in Clarksville. Oscar sustained injuries presumably from a larger dog and had a broken jaw.

Dr. Andrew Fancher says, "They thought he was dead, and he was dehydrated and so they brought him in here, he had quite few puncture wounds around his neck."

Oscar underwent surgery and is healing. An online fundraiser is set up for Oscar and his vet expenses.

Clifton says, "It's just amazing what people will do for somebody that needs help."

Clifton adds that a woman contacted him today saying Oscar belonged to her.

Clifton says, "Wanted to know to know what she had to do to get him back. "

The animal control director says despite the alleged owner's excuse, he won't let Oscar go back into her care or lack thereof.

Tim Clifton says, "She claims she let him outside to go to the bathroom and something happened. Even so if she let him and didn't watch him, he needed better than that."

The animal hospital says it will take several weeks for Oscar to recover. When he is healthy, he will be put up for adoption.
