NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Kai Beech) -- An emotional documentary was on display at Vanderbilt University Tuesday.

“It's Time" is  the story about an on-field collision between two SEC football players that left one paralyzed and the other living in a world of regret.

“I think about it every day, several times a day throughout the day,” former Vanderbilt University football Brad Gaines said about the hit that left Ole Miss defensive back Chucky Mullins paralyzed.

The hit took place during the 1989 Vanderbilt-Ole Miss football game in Mississippi. Mullins broke up a pass that was intended for Gaines. Mullins also broke his neck during the play. Shattering several vertebrae, he was left paralyzed from the neck down. Mullins died a few years later and Gaines has been living with survivor’s guilt ever since.

“I know it’s not my fault,” Gaines said. “But the fact was that it was me and the fact that somebody was not only paralyzed that day but somebody lost their life, you have to deal with that.”

Trying to turn a negative into something positive, Gaines agreed take part in the documentary film about how one play changed so many people’s lives and transcended the game of football.
